The short answer

Plus is $20 a month for one person. Business is $25 a month on monthly billing, or $20 billed annually, and needs a minimum of two seats.

Two things to notice. The two seat minimum on Business, and the gap between monthly and annual billing. On annual billing a Standard seat costs the same as Plus, which is where the interesting decision sits.

What Plus actually is

Plus is a single user subscription at $20 a month. It gets the frontier models, higher usage limits than the free tier, and it is billed monthly with no annual discount. There is no admin layer, no shared workspace, and nobody to manage seats.

What Business adds

  • A shared workspace, so prompts, projects and custom GPTs belong to the team, not to a personal account
  • Admin controls for users, roles and access
  • SAML single sign on
  • Centralized billing and spend controls
  • Business data excluded from model training by default
  • Premium seats for the two or three people who genuinely hit the usage ceiling

What it does not add is better answers. The models are the same family. You are buying administration and data terms, not intelligence.

The overspend nobody notices

Here is the trap. A three person team pays for three Plus subscriptions at $20 each: $60 a month, billed to three personal accounts. Move the same three people to Business Standard on annual billing and the bill is $60 a month, with SSO, admin controls, shared workspace and no training on your data.

Same money, more control. The reason teams stay on Plus is that the individual and business plans sit on different tabs of the pricing page, so nobody compares them. If two or more people are expensing Plus out of the same budget, this is the single easiest fix on the page.

When to stay on Plus

One person, no shared work, no admin need. Also when you want to test before committing a team, and when monthly flexibility matters more than the annual price.

When Enterprise is the real answer

When procurement needs a contract, when SCIM provisioning is required, when data residency is a legal question rather than a preference. Enterprise has no published price, so treat any figure you read as reported, not official.

A note on the numbers moving

ChatGPT seat prices changed during 2026, and some guides still quote older figures. The numbers above are what OpenAI's own help centre and pricing page showed in October 2026. Check the pricing page on the day you buy.

Questions people ask

How much does ChatGPT Business cost per user?

A Standard seat is $25 a month on monthly billing, or $20 billed annually, and the plan needs at least two seats. A Premium seat is $100 billed annually or $125 monthly, with about five times the usage and no five hour limit.

Is Business worth it for one person?

No. The two seat minimum means a solo user pays twice for admin features they will not use. Stay on Plus.

What does Business add over Plus?

A shared workspace, SAML single sign on, admin controls, centralized billing and spend controls, and business data excluded from training by default.
