Zapier’s free plan: 100 tasks a month, and the two-step limit

The short answer

Free is $0 a month, includes Zaps, Tables and Forms, and allows 100 tasks a month. The limit that breaks first is not tasks, it is steps: free Zaps can only be two steps, so anything that needs a filter, a formatter and a third action cannot run.

What counts as a task

A task is one successful action a Zap performs. If a form submission creates a row and sends a message, that is two actions, two tasks. A Zap that runs 100 times a month with two actions uses 200 tasks, which is already over the free allowance.

That is the number people underestimate. 100 tasks is not 100 runs. It is 100 actions.

The real limit is the two-step rule

Most workflows worth building need a filter, a formatter, or a second destination. On free, the Zap stops at two steps, so you cannot branch, cannot reformat a date, and cannot send the same data to two places. The task count is generous; the step count is what pushes people to paid.

If your workflow is genuinely two steps, free is enough for a long time. If it needs three, the answer is $19.99 a month for Professional, not a workaround that duplicates Zaps and burns tasks twice as fast.

When to pay, and when to move elsewhere

Pay when you have a workflow you already know works by hand and it needs more than two steps. Do not pay to experiment. And if the workflow only touches one app, check whether that app has the automation built in, which is usually free.
